August 22, 2012
By: cometrealty

According to an article in USA Today, green-certified homes sell for 9% more than regular homes in California. According to the University of California research department, single-family homes with green certifications sold for an average of $34,800 more! These statistics were taken from comparable homes from 2007-2012 when average California home was $400,000. The study finds the premium is also highest in the hottest places, suggesting buyers value green labels because of the lower utility bills. 1.6 million home sales were looked at, including 4,300 that earned certifications from…

GREEN TIP: Packing Materials

July 24, 2012
By: cometrealty

Styrofoam packing peanuts, bubble wrap, and foam are useful during a move, but not for the environment.  To go green on your next move, try using old newspapers to wrap fragile items, and then recycle the paper when you unpack. Wrap pieces of furniture and art with blankets to ensure they do not get damaged during the move instead of packing them in foam. If you must use non-biodegradable packing materials, ask around to see if anyone has any from a past move to give…

Hayley’s FENG SHUI TIP: Eyes of the Home

June 28, 2011
By: cometrealty

WINDOWS ARE THE EYES OF THE HOME We were out showing houses last summer and not only was I not quite prepared for this place, but my client wasn’t either! The windows were so filthy, you literally could not see through them. The only reason you can see through the one on the left is because the pane was missing!!!  In feng shui, the windows are called “the eyes of the home”. They are related to your ability to see clearly in life. Keeping your…

June 12, 2011
By: cometrealty

RISMedia, June 10, 2011—Despite the ups and downs of the housing market, home owners and non-owners alike consider owning a home essential to the American Dream. That’s the key finding of a recent survey of people likely to vote in 2012 that was conducted on behalf of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) by Public Opinion Strategies of Alexandria, Va., and Lake Research Partners of Washington, D.C. “The survey results show that Americans see beyond the immediate housing market to the enduring value of…

May 24, 2011
By: cometrealty

I am STILL working on clutter around my house. For some reason, just when I think I have it under control, it looks as if a bomb went off in my house. Does this happen to you too?  My friend Sara Caputo, the completely organized owner of Radiant Organizing out of Santa Barbara. has a most excellent blog (http://www.radiantorganizing.com/blog/). Twice a week she posts something incredibly useful. She said that the reason we have clutter is that we have poor decision making skills. I agree…

April 26, 2011
By: cometrealty

It is not about having what we want, but wanting what we have. ~ Dalai Lama It’s everywhere! Paper stacks, old clothes that don’t fit or need mending, broken furniture or appliances, collectibles, inherited items, gifts we didn’t like then, and still don’t like now.  It accumulates little by little until it becomes overwhelming. Clutter affects your energy levels and general well being. It can weigh you down both physically and emotionally.  One of the most important aspects of clutter clearing is loving what you…
